Jason Dunn is an executive overseeing billions of dollars flowing through his clients' accounts. He's perched high on the corporate ladder, but after one mistake he falls with a crash, barely keeping his job. When his new lover has an idea to cash in and disappear with her, the temptation to burn the institution that burned him is too enticing to resist.

Cash Burn eBook Michael Berrier

Apparently this is a Christian novel, but I have never read a Christian novel as grim, joyless, loveless, and lacking in a message of redemption as this one was. No happiness, no light, very little hope. The scenes with Christian content almost feel tacked on, they have little to do with the lives and fate of the main characters.

Life sometimes is that way and who knows what the author envisioned happening to the surviving characters after the end of the novel. Maybe they pick up the pieces of their lives and finally decide to listen to the pastor who shows up every now and then.

The main story involved Jason, a bank manager, and Flip, a recently paroled convict. Their connection is a mystery as the book begins, but becomes clearer as the story progresses. Although their lives have intersected in the past, there is little connecting their stories in the present. The end of the story is relatively obvious, but also feels contrived.

Cash Burn eBook Michael Berrier Reviews

Kept me interested but wasn't a great work of fiction. It also had an abrupt ending that left you feeling like it was It unfinished.
This gripping story of Jason Dunn, a banker having a mid-life crisis of sorts, was very well written. The story is fast-paced, and I didn't want to put it down. A great tale of revenge and greed, and even though I thought I had it figured out, the ending was not at all what I expected!
This book was such a nice surprise because it was the author's first book and was definitely hard to put down. I even found myself thinking about what would happen next when I wasn't reading. I would recommend this book if you enjoy a good thriller without predictability.
So here I am, on a 16 hour flight and select this book to read from the 60 on my kindle seeking my attention. Glad I finally picked it up. Good story. Jason is a banker with issues related to his relationship with his father, his brother, his wife and his job. He is actually in my opinion depressed and has been for many years due to a event that occurred many a years ago. Although pretending to be normal, his past is now catching up with his soul. I enjoyed the flow of how one's actions can shape the lives of so many around them, including ultimately costing his brother his life. His suspicious nature towards his wife's actions's one hand is completely in contrast to the trust he places in the "significant other" in his life, Brenda, who ultimately ends up destroying him, while his wife has spared no effort to try and save him. A story of a man destined for trouble with nothing that can hold it back. Read the book. Fair job by the author.
I downloaded this for free, I like to read thrillers. Most of it is run-of-the-mill stuff, if you like a plot-driven page-turner, this will do. It starts out slow, but really picks up about halfway through. Two notes There is one odd chapter that I guess is meant to qualify this as Christian Fiction. The chapter seems tacked on, and takes away from the momentum of the plot. On the other hand, there are a few chapters about the main character's brother and his father and their relationship that I thought were really well-written, enough to give this book a little distinction.
I loved this book.

Jason Dunn is a commercial banker with millions of dollars disbursed or held back on his say-so. When his career and marriage become less than fullfilling, Jason contemplates just what all that money can do.

Flip is newly released from prison. He and Jason have a shared past. Their presents collide in a page-turning fast moving plot.

I enjoyed the "behind the scenes" look at banking, espcially with the current economic news so discouraging.

Highly recommended.
Cash Burn was a slow starting book but one of the best I have read in a long time. There was enough suspense in the book to keep you guessing about the characters, what they were about and how they were going to play out in the end. You had to have sympathy for Flip and all he had gone through, but he was also written to be really hated by the readers, then learning that it wasn't all his fault made you feel even worse in the end. Jason was an egotistical jerk from minute one in the book and you had to hate him yet pity him also. The further you read in the book the more you come to know these men, liking and not liking them. Flips girlfriend was an evil creature from minute one and to find out the extent of her involvement in the story as it goes along makes you hate her even more. I wish the part of the wife would have been more developed as well as a lot less "God" and biblical references. If I had known it had that much of a religious under tone to it I wouldn't have even downloaded it, but this time I am glad that I did.
